Mystery Shopping Jobs
This is a list of companies that I've actually worked for.
NOTE: NEVER PAY A FEE TO GET A JOB!
I cannot reiterate that enough. Also, before you commit to survey companies, research them thoroughly to make sure you're going to earn real money, - points are just about worthless in my opinion. You're looking for work that involves cold, hard cash - not imaginary points on a web server.
Please let us know if you find broken links, companies that are no longer hiring, NEW companies that ARE hiring, or if you have any sort of bad experience with a particular company. We're considering putting up a discussion forum for users, so let me know if that's something you'd find worthwhile, also. You can catch me via email by clicking here.

Mystery Shopping
A lot of people are familiar with the concept of mystery shopping, and they've for sure heard ads, seen things online, etc. for it. Many people reading this may have done it even. For those that haven't, mystery shopping is the process where you get paid by a company to go in an pretend to be a customer at a store. You may have to make an actual purchase, and many times you'll be reimbursed for your purchase and get to keep the merchandise (I love mystery shopping at restaurants - yummy!)
The thing to be aware of with mystery shopping is that most ads and commercials you see and here for mystery shopping are NOT the actual mystery shopping companies themselves, they are companies that ask you for a fee in order to obtain a LIST of mystery shopping companies that you can apply with. I can not reiterate this enough _ NEVER PAY A FEE TO GET A LIST OF JOBS TO APPLY FOR. I've done it myself, and every single one of them has always been throwing money down the toilet.
The first thing you should look into for getting into mystery shopping is to actually get certified. The Mystery Shopping Providers Association is a great place to start. I have my Silver certification, and it's opened several doors, so it's worth the money to get, and it isn't that expensive, nor is the test that difficult. The nice thing about the MSPA is that they also provide the BEST central resource for learning about mystery shopping, getting started, and evaluating the companies - and it's all out in the open in the mystery shopper discussion forums. Incredible resource! Just go there and start reading.
Companies
OK, I'll get off my soapbox and just get to the list...Enjoy!
- Maritz Research - This is the mystery shopping company that I've had the best experience with. They rock! They also pay decent. A big part of this business, after you get going, is that you start to realize that getting paid $4 plus getting to eat a hamburger, well...That gets old in a hurry. Maritz has contracts with some HUGE entities (there's a non-disclosure agreement, I can't specify companies). They're online form is easy to fill out, and they pay on time, every time. I can't recommend them enough. Basically, as for companies I've PERSONALLY worked for - there's Maritz, and then everybody else.
- Sinclair - They do a lot of odds and ends, they're a solid company.
- ACRA - not much to say about them, they're a smaller outfit
- Service Evaluation Concepts - Good company with a good training program. They're very big on professionalism, since they evaluate service industries primarily.
- National Shopping Service - I've done very little work for them, but I've never had a problem with them. They're a pretty good sized company, too.
